"Probating a will and serving as the executor of an estate are never easy or enjoyable tasks, especially when dealing with a large family of heirs with varied and often opposite interests from those stated in the will; however, hiring attorney Gilbert De La Garza to handle the various court filings and other legal aspects of this will was probably my most important duty as executor and one of the best decisions I made in this process. As with any will, Mr. De La Garza had to resolve technical issues and circumstances that occurred after the will was written, the primary complication being a decision by my mother not to allow the will of my late father to be probated. Those issues had to be legally resolved before proceeding with my mother’s will. It did take some time to accomplish the task because of those complications, but throughout the process, Mr. De La Garza offered guidance and moral support on how to handle unruly and impatient heirs. On occasion, he was confronted by them as well, but maintained his “cool” while always reminding me that my priority was to honor the wishes of my late mother, and to treat all heirs fairly when it came to distributing assets of the estate - even those heirs who felt they deserved more than other heirs. "Several years ago, while on the job, I had a commercial vehicle tire explode near me as I filled it with air. It was a very traumatic experience in which I suffered various injuries including shrapnel in my body and severe tinnitus in one of my ears due to the explosion.

"I was represented by Mr. De La Garza in a child custody case involving my two grandchildren. They had been living with me in Corpus Christi, Texas for several years, since the ages of 3 and 5. My son was granted custody of them in a divorce action in another state a year ealier. His ex-wife had specific court ordered visitation rights but because she lived in a different state, she only saw them a few times, once at Christmas and twice in the summer months. She came to Texas the first time at Christmas and the children were allowed to go and visit where she lived for the summer visits. We found out in the years to come, at the ages of 12 and 14, that they had been abused on their summer visits to see their mother. My son did not have the resources to fight for visitation rights of the mother to be terminated, and he was suffering some emotional and health issues, so he signed over custody to me. I retained Mr. De La Garza to handle the case and he did so quickly and successfully. After handling the complicated jurisdictional State to State issues by filing the appropriate requests and finalizing the case, the court ordered visitation rights of the mother were terminated and the children were never again subjected to mandatory visits with their her again. Mr. De La Garza did a great job for me and my grandchildren, who are adults now and living happy, healthy lives.
